It has evolved through the efforts of scientists and clinicians from many fields including clinical nutrition, molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology, genetics, Environmental Medicine, Conventional Medicine and many other disciplines. Functional Medicine examines the whole body, paying particular attention to how lifestyle, nutrition, hormone imbalances and stress affect the body. Functional Medicine tests like the Organic acid test (OAT), CDSA, comprehensive stool analysis, SIBO testing, genetic test, and micronutrient testing provide additional information than conventional tests. They are based upon scientific evidence and literature, but they are not always accepted by conventional medicine.
